Christiania

Christiania is a study in multiplicity and tolerance, and the idea that cities can exist within cities. In this series, Denmark’s Freetown Christiania, in Copenhagen, is mapped with a focus on its anarchic architecture to show that a city can have a second layer.

The attention on the seemingly chaotic form of architecture shows how a city can evolve when no city planning is conducted.

The exact GPS-location for each building was recorded and used to create a new-media journey wherein the images can be viewed in relation to the surrounding area on a digital map, therefore seeing the work in a sociological context.

The project was supported by Danish Arts Foundation.
